Scope and Contents

The papers in this collection include Full Council, Executive Board, and various subcommittee meeting minutes, agendas, and attendance; registration forms, charters, contracts, budget requests, and lists of events for student groups and their SGA student representatives; the SGA constitution and by-laws; lists of accomplishments; member contact lists; awards for Faculty and Staff; memos, flyers, emails, and other correspondence of students, faculty and staff, and others outside of MassArt. The Women for Action, Integrity, and Learning (WAIL) series includes the charter and other papers on WAIL’s formation as a feminist women’s group represented by SGA; memos and correspondence about a scholarship opportunity; copies of the Abigail Can Wail Monthly Newsletter; submissions, approvals, and planning papers for Women’s Spoken Word Shows; and various flyers of events hosted by WAIL. Other notable papers included in this collection is correspondence from Senator John Kerry; school-wide memos and correspondence with other art school faculties directly after the events of September 11, 2001; reports from students and trustees on adding “and Design” to MassArt College’s official name; and minutes discussing Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton’s upcoming visit to the 125th GALA Event in December 1998 [will need to double check this – in Box 2?], her first-ever visit to a college of arts.

This collection is open for research. Restricted Fragile Material may only be consulted with permission of the archivist. Preservation photocopies for reference use have been substituted in the main files.

Custodial History

The items in this collection are from the MassArt Student Government Association (SGA). Approximately 9 boxes were discovered and removed from a closet in 2019. Records originate from a mixture of student representatives and students who held executive positions throughout academic years from 1995-2008.
